Summer L. Frederick

Summer focuses her practice in the areas of insurance coverage and extra-contractual litigation.  She represents both insurers and policyholders in matters including breach of contract, construction defects, coverage disputes involving additional insureds, issues related to primary and excess coverage, first-party property losses, and errors and omissions.

Summer has devoted more than two decades to learning the ins and outs of the insurance industry.  She obtained a property and casualty agent’s license in 1996, and a life, accident, health and HMO license in 1999, and spent twelve years working with a major insurer.  During these years, she gained applied insight into coverage, policy forms and endorsements, underwriting, and the relationships between insureds, agents, and brokers.  She is experienced with a wide range of policy forms, including commercial general liability, commercial auto, commercial property, personal lines, and professional liability.

In 2000, Summer received her B.S. in criminal justice from the University of North Texas.  She received her J.D. from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law in 2008.  Prior to graduation from law school, she completed a clerkship with the Texas Department of Insurance.  Following graduation, her choice to practice insurance coverage law was a natural transition from her prior career.  Through Summer’s diverse experience, she brings the ability to understand issues from multiple perspectives, and has a unique ability to provide her clients with invaluable insight from all sides of the table.

Summer is married with three children, as well as three rescue dogs and a cat.  She enjoys traveling with her family and cooking.
