For the past 25 years, Lanette’s career has been focused on defending healthcare providers.   Lanette joined Cooper & Scully in Dallas in 1998,  defending physicians and hospitals throughout Texas.  In 2000, she launched Cooper & Scully's Houston.  In addition to maintaining an active litigation practice, she managed all aspects of the Houston office, including training, recruitment, performance management and business development.  In 2009,  she went in-house to launch a national Medical Professional Liability Insurance Company and served as Vice - President of Claims and Litigation Management.  She served as a member of the company’s Executive Leadership team, built and led an in-house legal team and served on the Company’s Board of Directors and Chair of the Claims Committee.  Lanette oversaw all professional liability claims, including supervision of outside defense counsel, development of litigation strategy, and litigation management of catastrophic, high-exposure medical malpractice claims in all medical specialties. In addition to overseeing medical malpractice claims, she managed claims involving peer review, credentialing, medicare billing errors, HIPAA, EMTALA, cyber liability, and licensing board actions.  She also advised large physician practices on risk management strategies and ensured regulatory compliance in 28 states. Lanette contributed to the company’s development efforts to investors, physicians’ groups and strategic partners.  She returned to private practice at Cooper & Scully in 2017 to launch their Austin office to continue defending physicians and hospitals. 

Lanette started out her legal career as a Chief Felony Prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office in the Sexual Assault and Crimes Against Children Division.  She oversaw a team of felony prosecutors while actively prosecuting child homicides, aggravated sexual assaults and felony injuries to a child, including brain-damaged baby cases.  Lanette tried approximately 80 cases as first chair, with 100% conviction rate.  

Lanette interned for the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, Judge Emilio Garza and the United States District Court, Western District of Texas, Chief Judge, Lucius D. Bunton.
