John C. Faubion

John works in the Austin office of Cooper & Scully, P.C.  His practice focuses on commercial litigation and the defense of hospitals, physicians, and nurses facing malpractice claims.  John is also experienced in a broad range of matters ranging from employment disputes to personal injury to the collection of judgments.  In addition, John regularly counsels physicians and nurses facing inquiry from the Texas Medical Board or Texas Board of Nursing.  He practices in state courts, federal courts, and Texas administrative venues.

John is also experienced in taking lawsuits to trial and has worked closely with founding shareholder John Scully to obtain favorable verdicts as both a plaintiff and a defendant.  Notably, in 2016, John worked as a member of the trial team to successfully obtain a defense verdict on behalf of a major hospital in a wrongful birth case involving cystic fibrosis.  One year later, John went to trial again with Cooper & Scully shareholders John Scully and Eric Hines to pursue claims relating to the sale of an oilfield services company, ultimately obtaining a result named as one of the top 100 verdicts in the nation for 2017 by ALM Verdict Search and The National Law Journal.  Most recently, John participated in a three-week jury trial as part of the team that successfully defended another major hospital from claims related to a traumatic brain injury sustained on the football field.

John grew up in Dallas and attended the University of Texas at Austin for undergraduate studies before earning his J.D. from the SMU Dedman School of Law.  During law school, John served as Managing Editor for the International Law Review, represented indigent clients as a student attorney in the SMU Civil Clinic, and studied comparative international law at the University of Oxford.

John and his wife are kept busy by their young son and two dogs.  In his free time, John enjoys getting outdoors, fishing on the Texas coast, and supporting the Texas Longhorns.
