John represents clients in state and federal lawsuits, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings. He counsels clients on matters including medical malpractice, business and commercial torts, breach of contract, fraud, employment disputes, personal injury matters, and post-judgment collections. He also provides representation to physicians and nurses facing inquiry from the Texas Medical Board or Texas Board of Nursing. John was recognized in the Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list by Thomson Reuters in 2020 to present.
John’s practice covers all aspects of litigation, including drafting and responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, motion practice, settlement, mediation, and jury trials. He serves as lead counsel for business and commercial clients in seven-figure disputes and provides first chair representation to physicians before the Texas Medical Board. He is also an essential part of the Cooper & Scully team defending physicians and major hospital systems from complex medical malpractice claims.
In the courtroom, John recently worked as part of the trial team to obtain defense verdicts for major hospitals in cases involving a wrongful birth claim for an infant diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (an issue of first impression for the venue) and allegations of negligence relating to a traumatic brain injury sustained on the football field.
In 2017, John went to trial with Cooper & Scully shareholders John Scully and Eric Hines on behalf of an individual client and obtained a favorable result named as one of the top 100 verdicts in the nation for 2017 by ALM Verdict Search and The National Law Journal.
John and his wife spend most of their free time trying to keep up with their two young children. He also enjoys exploring the Austin greenbelt with his dog, fishing on the Texas coast, and supporting Texas Longhorn athletics.
